EMASS Divisions

EMASS provides safe and enjoyable competition for senior softball players. Team rosters change every year to encourage balanced competition, social interaction and safe play. All games have paid umpires, well-maintained fields and quality equipment. We have 6 divisions to:

  1. Accommodate players of diverse skill levels,
  2. Provide the opportunity to play multiple times per week, and
  3. Reduce the safety risks associated with younger, stronger players competing with older, weaker players.

We have 6 divisions and all play double-headers in the morning. There are 2 Saturday divisions and 4 weekday divisions. In each division, returning and new players are assigned to new teams every year to balance the competition and to allow players to play with one another as teammates as well as against one another as competitors.

Note:  The numbers below are target expectations.

Weekend Divisions:

Saturday Colonial: 5 teams, average age = 60. Saturdays, 9 AM in Framingham, Medway and Medfield. The Colonial Division is generally made up of younger and higher skilled players in their 50s and 60s. There are a few in their 70s. Players are assigned to rosters through a draft. Undrafted players are moved to the National.

Saturday National: 8 teams, average age = 68. Saturdays, 9 AM in Framingham, Marlboro and Wayland. The National Division encompasses a wide range of skills and abilities with players in their 50s, 60s, and 70s. There are a few in their 80s and they inspire us all.

Weekday Divisions:

Tuesday Pacific: 5 teams, average age = 63. Tuesdays, 10:00 am in Wayland and Medfield. The Pacific Division is our top weekday division for A teams with the younger and higher skilled players. Players are assigned to rosters through a draft.

Thursday Atlantic: 7 teams, average age = 67. Thursdays, 10:00 am in Wayland and Medfield. The Atlantic is a mid-level division of B+ teams, encompassing a wide range of skills and abilities including many Pacific Division players. Players are assigned to rosters through a draft.

Monday Minuteman: 8 teams, average age = 71. Mondays, 10:00 am in Wayland and Medfield. The Monday Minuteman is a mid-level division of B- teams, encompassing a wide range of skills and abilities including many Metro division players. Players are assigned to rosters by the Division Coordinator.

Wednesday Metro: 7 teams, average age=76. Wednesdays, 10:00 am in Wayland and Medfield. The Metro Division is a 6-8 team league for players 65 and older. The Metro division is a division of C teams, encompassing a wide range of skills and abilities for elder players who still have the physical skills and desire to play competitive softball. Players are assigned to rosters by the Division coordinator.

Any undrafted players in the Tuesday Pacific or Thursday Atlantic will be offered roster spots in another division.

Many players play in multiple divisions. Since skills vary widely by age, you may find younger (under 60) and older players (over 75) in any division, but the average age of each division gives you some idea of the relative level of competitive skill.

  • Many younger players enroll in Tuesday Pacific and Thursday Atlantic.
  • Many older players enroll in Monday Minuteman and Wednesday Metro.
  • There are many players who enroll in the Monday Minuteman and the Thursday Atlantic and don’t play either the Tuesday Pacific or Wednesday Metro.
  • Many players enroll in a Saturday division and one or more weekday divisions

We have scheduled all divisions so that most players who play in multiple divisions have a day off between playing days.
